Shoots 5 large bullets that fan out, with a high rate of fire. If the player fires while any part of the beam is already on screen, that beam disappears and a new one fires from the gun. Although it is the strongest gun, it is quirky to use. Shoots a long laser beam that causes massive amounts of damage. The function of this weapon is comparable to the Grenade Launcher of the original arcade Super Contra. This one penetrates through small enemies and explodes into 8, instead of 4, upon impact. If the fire button is briefly held before release, a slightly bigger and stronger fireball is released. It shoots large fireballs that, upon impact, explode into 4 smaller fireballs that spread diagonally out. Unlike its NES predecessor’s counterpart, this gun is one of the most useful powerups in the game. The rate of fire can be increased by rapidly pressing the fire button. Shoots a rapid stream of bullets, fired automatically. It can be fired at a fast rate by rapidly pressing the fire button. The player starts with this gun and, assuming they have a gun powerup, will revert to it when respawning after death. Powerups are acquired through various objects scattered throughout the game. The main difference lies in the Fireball Gun. Since the NES/Famicom version of Super Contra uses the core engine of NES/Famicom version of Contra, the arsenal is almost entirely the same. Although, like the store sample of its predecessor, it is still possible to be limited in gameplay content. This further supports that the sample is likely final. The seller included a photo of the title screen, which matches the Japanese retail version. If it were a content limiting sample, the cheat code sticker would be an unusual inclusion. This is quite possibly the full, retail game, although this can’t be known for certain without the ROM data being analyzed. On the front, a sticker was placed over the label with instructions on how to activate the 30 lives cheat code. The cartridge, or the shell at least, is entirely from the retail release of the game. Included in the lot is a copy of Super Contra purported to be a sample. The following lot of Famicom system and games was sold on Yahoo Japan in December of 2021.
